Veterinary Wellness Care for Pets, The Bluffs Pet Clinic
Annual Wellness Visits and Preventative Medicine Will Keep Your Pet Healthy and Happy!
At The Bluffs Pet Clinic, we understand the strong bond you have with your pet and how important your pet is to your family. It’s important to maintain your pet’s quality of life with annual wellness exams to keep your pet healthy. Many pets do not show signs of illness or pain, so annual wellness exams are critical in detecting any health problem early, when prevention is most effective. Each pet receives a custom wellness plan best suited for him or her based on their unique needs, including breed, age, lifestyle, medical history, and current medical health.
Annual Wellness and Preventative Care for Your Pet includes:
- Complete Physical Exam
- Visual Dental Exam
- Immunizations (as needed)
- Blood Test (Heartworm detection)
- Heartworm Prevention
- Flea/Tick Prevention
- Fecal Analysis
- Nutritional Needs Discussion
- Weight Management
During your pet’s annual physical exam, one of our veterinarians will do a full nose-to-tail evaluation on your pet. We will check your pet’s eyesight, heart and lung functions, joints and muscles for proper function and development, palpate the abdomen, and discuss and inspect any concerns you may have regarding your pet’s overall health. Your pet is in good hands with us!
It is important for us to check your pet’s weight during each visit to make sure he or she is at their ideal healthy weight. We discuss proper nutrition and portion control for your pet in addition to what types of physical activity are best to keep your pet healthy and strong. We will check if your pet has dramatically gained or lost a significant amount of weight, as this can be a sign of an underlying health problem.
You wouldn’t miss brushing your own teeth daily, so why skip cleaning your pet’s teeth? Dental health is equally important to pets as it is to humans which is why we highly recommend our furry patients have their teeth brushed regularly at home. During the exam, we will discuss all the ins and outs of proper dental care for your pet. Our veterinarian will inspect your pet’s teeth and gums for plaque, tartar, tooth decay or infections, and tooth weakness. We recommend an annual professional teeth cleaning for your pet as well which can be done right in our facility.
Parasite Prevention & Control
Parasites affect pets and can affect humans, too, so detection and prevention is important for your pet’s and your family’s health. During your pet’s annual visit we recommend an annual fecal test to check for intestinal worms and a blood test to check for heartworms which may live in your pet’s heart and bloodstream. We also prescribe medications such as Heartgard and Frontline to keep your pet healthy and prevent these parasites as well as fleas and ticks from infesting your pet.
For new patients, we ask that you bring a copy of your pet’s previous medical records and history if you have access to them. For all patients, please bring a fresh stool sample (less than 12 hours old) so we can check for any parasites. Please bring your pet on a leash or in a carrier to make sure he or she is safe and for the safety of other animals as well.
If you have any current health concerns about your pet, please let us know when scheduling your appointment so the Doctor will have ample time to address your concerns. Feel free to bring a list of questions or concerns you may have to address with us. We look forward to meeting you and your pet!
